2024 St George and Dragon 1oz Gold Coin

This is a brand new coin, struck in 999.9 fineness 24 carat gold and is minted by The Royal Mint. The coins will come in a Royal Mint tube if bought in quantities of ten. It marks the first coin in a new series celebrating the story of England’s saint slaying the mystical dragon.

St. George slaying the dragon is a legendary tale symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. In this classic fable, St. George, a valiant knight, rescues a town plagued by a fearsome dragon by bravely slaying the beast. This story represents courage, heroism, and the victory of righteousness, making it a timeless symbol of bravery and protection. Most famously, this tale is depicted by designer Benedetto Pistrucci on the reverse of the Royal Mint’s smaller Sovereign gold coins.

Like the 1oz Britannia gold coin, the Gold 2024 St George and Dragon coin boasts a £100 face value, qualifying it as Capital Gains Tax free. For this reason and it’s relative scarcity, we expect this gold coin to be a very popular investment choice.

Coin Design

The front of the coin features King Charles III as depicted by designer Martin Jennings.

The re-interpretation of Saint George slaying the ferocious dragon is displayed on the coin’s reverse, and is once again trusted to renowned artist Jody Clark. It provides a contemporary update of the classic tale and marks the first of an ongoing series of coins based on this heroic theme.

Our Expert Opinion

We always get excited with any new Royal Mint coin release. We particularly like the St George and Dragon due to its stunning design and combination of investment appeal and collectability.

Its modest premium, quantity discounts and tax efficiency mean we expect the gold investment community to snap this coin up in large quantities to further diversify their portfolios of Gold Sovereigns and Britannias.
