The Falcon of Plantagenets quarter-ounce coin is the sixth in a series of ten Queens Beast issues, each with a 1oz and quarter-ounce gold version. each Beast is also released in two silver sizes, 2oz and a huge 10oz coin.

Heraldic Falcon

First used as a symbol by Richard III, the Falcon represents the strength of mind and determination. Commonly used again down the generations, Edward IV utilised the falcon symbol sitting on an open fetterlock to symbolise his claim to the throne. The design of the coin reflects that with the impressive falcon perched upon a throne emblazoned with another falcon perched upon a fetterlock. Popular amongst the combined houses of York and Lancaster, the Falcon has become an established royal beast to the Windsor house.

Our Expert Opinion

With a limited issue and being part of an inspiring 10-piece Royal Mint collection, the quarter ounce gold Falcon holds great appeal as a collectable coin. For this reason, we’ve already experienced high premium increases on previous quarter-ounce gold beasts once supplies run dry. The 1/4 oz coin boasts the same fine detail of its bigger 1oz version, so the coin’s beauty is incredible.

With its tax-free gold coin status, the Falcon will also appeal to those wishing to build a balanced and varied investment portfolio.
