The Royal Tudor Beasts Dragon 2024
The 5th Tudor Beasts Royal Mint gold coin features a stunning design by David Lawrence. The background to the dragon image is textured with an animated chainmail effect for added security and aesthetics. The Tudor Dragon, also known as the Red Dragon of Wales, is a prominent heraldic symbol closely associated with the Tudor dynasty of England. It was chosen to join the King’s Beasts on the Moat Bridge as a symbolic link between Henry VIII and Cadwaladr, a former king of Gwynedd.
This mythical creature gained particular significance when Henry VII, the first Tudor monarch, adopted it as a badge after his victory at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485. The dragon’s use in Tudor heraldry symbolized their Welsh heritage and claim to the throne, as it was believed to have been used by legendary Welsh leaders like Cadwaladr. The Tudor Dragon continues to be an important emblem in British heraldry, featuring on the flag of Wales and in various royal coats of arms.
The front of the coin displays the brand new official portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings. The background to His Majesty features the familiar guilloché design.
Our Expert Opinion
These coins are essential for collectors and investors alike. Lock in the introductory low premiums when the coin is first released, as similar limited edition Royal Mint coins such as the Queen’s Beasts gold coins have soared in value due to high demand and very limited supply.
