Specifications
Isle of Man Noble Silver coin
Unlike the majority of silver coins which are minted to a bullion silver coin finish, this 1oz British coin steps it up with this beautiful proof finish silver coin. Produced by the Isle of Man’s Tower Mint, this 2018 silver coin contains 1oz of 999.0 silver. Part of a limited run of only 15,000 coins, owners of this coin will be part of an exclusive club.
With a face value of £1, the coin is one of the few non-Royal Mint coins to qualify for UK legal tender status and therefore be free from Capital Gains Tax (CGT). Individual coins come in a plastic capsule, with larger orders arriving in foil trays of 30 or 500 per box.
Coin design and features
The reverse of the coin features an ancient Viking longboat called ‘Thusly’. The setting is completed with circling sea gulls and rippling sea waves. As a proof coin, the feel of the coin’s main imagery is far more three dimensional than cheaper bullion productions. The main illustration is matt in finish, sitting on a shiny background for effect and surrounded by an intricate matt effect Viking knit edging. The familiar Isle of Man flag – a triskelion of armoured legs – appears in a frame at the top of the coin. The wording ‘AG 999 1 ounce ONE NOBLE’ adorn the bottom of the coin reverse, confirming the coins metal, purity, weight and name.
Coin history
The Viking theme refers to the Isle of Man’s history of previously being known as the Kingdom of Man after it’s Norse invasion. The design also relates to the old English Noble, which was minted during the reign of Edward III and also featured a ship. Production has recently switched from Pobjoy Mint to Tower Mint.
Obverse
The front of the Noble coin presents a reverse image to the back, with the main portrait of Elizabeth II presented in a polished finish, with the background contrasting in a matt look. Confirmation of the Monarch, place of issuance (Isle of Man) and year of issue, occupy the surrounding of the obverse.
Good investment option?
For those seeking to buy silver coins as an investment, the Isle of Man silver coin offers a tempting option with it’s limited mintage, tax free legal tender status and stunning looks. A cheaper bullion tax free option would be the standard Royal Mint produced Silver Britannia coin.
