Silver Maple Leaf 30th Anniversary Edition
A special edition issue, to celebrate 30 years of the Silver 1oz Maple Leaf coin. Next year will mark 40 years since the original gold version was launched. This is a silver bullion coin and is sent individually in sachets, in tubes of 25, or boxes of 500. With the standard silver Maple Leaf now produced annually in the tens of millions, this 30th anniversary edition is refreshingly limited to a mintage run of 250,000. Produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, the Maple Leaf 30th Anniversary Edition is struck to 999.9 fineness and weighs 1 troy ounce. The silver coin features a face value of 5 Canadian Dollars and is backed by The Canadian Government.
Anniversary coin design
The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth facing right as you look at the coin, with her name confirmed around the top. The face value and the years 1998 – 2018 occupy below the monarch’s image to confirm the 30 years of issuance.
The reverse of the Maple Leaf displays the infamous Maple Leaf design, but also features the number 30 intwined in the foliage to reinforce the celebratory nature of the coin. Both sides of the coin feature a radial background detail.
Our expert opinion
These coins represent a good value collector’s option, as the premium over the standard coin is modest. With a mintage run limited to just 250,000 pieces, this coin will no doubt increase in value due to scarcity. With the high purity of the coin and the established reputation of the Canadian Maple Leaf series, strong demand is expected for this special issue silver coin.
